Enrich your vocabulary with these 15 English Expression list. Little tips can make great impact on your English.

1.PREY = an animal that is eaten by another animal. For example "Cats like to prey on rats" or "Seals are easy prey for sharks"

2.PICKY (adj) = a person whose standards are too high: "He refuses to eat any vegetables, he is too picky about food."

3.GRUMPY = in a bad mood / get angrily easily: "He is always grumpy when he has to wake up early on Mondays."

4.LOOK OUT! = be careful: "Look out! There is a car coming!"

LOOK OUT FOR = look after/take care of: "My brother always looks out for me."



5.PUT OFF = ruin someone's concentration: "He tried to focus on his homework but his sister's loud music put him off."

6.HEYDAY = the time when you are most powerful and successful: "The 1940s were the heyday of cinema", "In his heyday nobody could beat him"

7.CALL can sometimes mean "decision", for example: "That was a bad call by the referee" or "Let's eat pizza" / "Good call!"

8.ALL THAT (slang) = a really great, really cool person. We mostly use it like: "He acts like he's all that but he still lives with his mom."



9.IT SLIPPED MY MIND = I forgot about it: "I was going to buy my wife a birthday present but it totally slipped my mind."

10.UTMOST = maximum amount: "I have the utmost respect for him."

DO YOUR UTMOST = do your best: "I will do my utmost to fix the problem."

11.CALL IT A DAY = stop; go home; retire:

"It's nearly 4pm, let's call it a day"

"Steven Gerrard has decided to call it a day"

12.I'M ALL EARS = I am listening carefully, I would like to hear. We usually use it in an angry way: "Do you have a better idea? I'm all ears!"

13.MIND-BOGGLING = makes no sense; impossible to understand: "How can I eat a whole pizza and still feel hungry afterwards? It's mind-boggling"

14.SCREW UP = make a mistake: "I was trying to park my car but I screwed up and drove into the river."

15.FED UP = bored / tired / sick of something: "I am fed up of working every day, I need a vacation."
